Hitchhiker's Game - the deal is signed
date: 20 Sep 1999

The Digital Village's latest game, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, based on the Douglas Adams series of books, will be published by Pan Interactive in Q3 2001.

The game, which is a realtime 3D arcade adventure towel 'em up in the mould of Tomb Raider and Mario 64, combines action, adventure and comedy to recreate the spirit of the books and takes this into an immersive game environment.

The game follows the adventures of Arthur Dent as he is pulled from Earth just moments before its destruction, before being whisked along on a fantastic journey which takes him to all areas of the known universe in a quest for peace, safety and the perfect cup of tea.
Before the game finishes, Arthur will have found a lost race, saved the galaxy, reached spiritual enlightenment and popped a fish in his ear. All in a day's travel for an intergalactic hitchhiker.

Adam Shaikh, lead designer and product manager had this to say "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books creates an environment that is perfect for computer games. The depth of the galaxy, the humour involved and the great characters give us so many situations on which to draw to create the best possible gaming experience."

Tim Browse, producer and technology lead on the game comments "This must be a Thursday. I never could get the hang of Thursdays".
